Our Mission

The mission of the "Black Women in Sports and Media" network is to create a safe space for Black women as they navigate the worlds of sports and media. Founded in July 2021 in Boston, Mass., the organization was created as a support system for newly hired women and people of color in the market.

In 2020, a Boston Globe column called out what was already evident, but specifically highlighted the lack of Black women represented in an already white, male-dominated field. BWISM was born with the hopes that more women will have a sense of community no matter what city their career takes them.

Change is imminent and BWISM is committed to creating a pipeline for Black women who are passionate about working in sports and media.
